I just discovered you. I am impressed (not that means anything except that I like your sound & your choice of songs.) Really nice work - I not sure how I missed you along the way. We are living in Portland now - though we stall have the farm (hillhousewriters.com) I am doing a masters at Goddard College in port Townsend (actually going to be at a residency for a week in late February. Anyway, really like you sound and wish you the best - it is rare that I find a musician that I want to listen to anymore. Who knows, we might know some of the same people. Look me up on facebook - or not. Be good (but not too good).

Holly,

Today I came across your song "Dream in Red" almost completely by accident. I decided to give it a listen and it was a choice that I don't regret. I loved it! So I went ahead and purchased your whole Dream in Red album. Your music makes me melt. Thats the only way I can describe it. :) Thanks for being awesome.

I especially like ‘gifts and burdens’, I've always felt like spend a little time and write me a letter or even a well thought out email, failing that just pick up the goddam phone and say something meaningful otherwise save the fucking postage. The landfills have enough Hallmark cards already.

a quick question about performing live...

Hi there,

Greetings, how are ya. My name is Reno, and I was wondering if you could give me a little advice about singing to a live audience. I’m a singer/guitarist who’s been playing for years, but I haven’t performed live all too often. Here’s my question – when singing in front of an audience, is there any particular spot that you focus on in order to maintain concentration, and to really deliver the song with feeling and without distraction? Are there any mental tricks/ visualization techniques/mantras that you use? Is there any object that you focus on or lock your eyes on? I usually stare directly ahead and zone out, but sometimes I feel that I should look more in the direction of the audience….I don’t know. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much,
Reno

Holly!

i thought it was hilarious that i was also looking for who sang the concluding song to season 3 'damages' and your answer, of all, was not voted "most helpful". so ironic! wow. that is why yahoo keeps tanking... it was this link http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100420074714AA4iSWq

it is just a really awesome(!) song, and YOUR voice/rendition rocks. admittedly, i don't often love fem voices - but you, along with say, 'tegan and sara'-esq are totally rockin, love it. oooh and that bluegrass vibe... love love love.

come to DC and perform or just come party, and let me know if you need any design work. good times!

stay fab ;)

Thank you. One of your songs came through my station on Jango and I immediately looked you up.... and now I'm having to wipe tears away... but that's okay because I feel so lucky to have found your music. I wish you all the very very best. Thank you.

A friend of mine heard your song on Damages and posted about it on facebook so I thought I'd check you out and I think you are great. I've also just linked my Dad to your page so at the moment you have people in London, Auckland and Hong Kong listening and loving your tracks.

Hi Holly,

I saw your post on the GHF list. You know, I thought your name looked familiar and as I looked around your website it came to me: I remember going to see you in a little cafe in Seattle when my 13-yr-old was a toddler. I think my ex found your music online, but I also vaguely remember you had some shared attachment parenting or homeschooling philosophies with me. I love your sound and am sorry to say I lost track of you and your music over the years. Still love it.

I wanted to connect after reading your story about your illness. I too started developing health issues last year that included inflammation that was heading towards full-blown asthma. I had no idea what was wrong and I no longer go to mainstream medical doctors because of their inability to focus on the cause of the problems, and their tendency to do more harm in their "doctoring," i.e. pharmaceuticals. Anyway, not sure how far off the grid you're willing to go, but I found a medical intuitive who was able to tell me the source of my issues: I was having a severe reaction to cedar pollen (was living in Portland, OR after 3 years of being away from Seattle) that was causing the extreme inflammation and was causing me to be allergic to basically everything. I did some NAET before moving out of Portland in August. I'm now in Montana and have seen remarkable improvements.

So this is just to say that you have other options that could get your voice back. It won't be covered by insurance, but I would say the costs far outweigh the cost to you and your fans if you stop singing. If you want to keep a good foot in the allopathic world, there is a great doctor in Bellevue (Dr. Stephan Markus) who has a foot planted firmly in both the MD world and the alternative med. world. And he's covered by insurance. I found the medical intuitive to just be faster (I had been to a naturopathic doctor who had no clue what was wrong and who prescribed a lot of stuff that cost a lot of money).

If you want more info, I'd be happy to send it.

best,
Michelle

Whoops! So, just found out from Amazon that my $50 donation for your cd-making didn't go through. I had forgotten it was put on a card that got lost and cancelled. So, I'm trying to figure out how to get the $$ to you through Amazon. If that doesn't work, I'd be happy to send you a check.... just let me know where to send it to. Sorry about this!

I really wanted to say how much I like Holly's music. I didn't think I would like something that is considered folk-style. I can't seem to find the lyrics to " Everbody Knows." Could someone helpme out. I thought the lyrics were clever and even smart. Thank you for the great music dvb

I just stumbled upon you while looking for Luna guitars. One had your signature and the proceeds went to Haiti Relief. So I googled you and found your sight. I listened to half of a song and you honestly captured my heart. You are one of my favorite people in music of all times... right behind Michael Jackson and Bob Marley. I am about to start college at Gonzaga next fall and I can only hope that I will catch one of your shows. Thank you so much for putting your music into the world. I will always cherish it. Love is forever (MJ).

Holly, I keep checking in on your site... you are sounding so good these days. I'll have you know that my 10-year-old Oliver just sat tapping his toe as he read and we listened to "One More Time" playing. I still enjoy thinking about meeting you at Common Grounds in Davis, where you remembered about Babes with Axes... at a time when I was new to this town and desperately not playing enough music. Meeting someone who *knows* helps keep the faith up at times like that. I'm always pulling for you, lady. I wish you lived next door so I could play you my new songs as they squeak their way out. All good things to you...
